Headphones #120: kleinabaoho and lots of love

It is the voice that immediately stands out because it doesn’t sound average. It has a special touch. It is different. Concise. Individual.

The young woman from Linz, who gives her musical existence the name kleinabaoho, has put five songs of love on “Bilder” that are convincing both lyrically and musically. “Sophie”, the assessment of a lost love, is the heart of the album, which is at the beginning. The celebration of love is also a celebration of two people and of what was not good. At the end there is regret. “I’m sorry, Sophie,” sings the queer songwriter, and you just want to hug her.

“Heartbreak has always inspired me a lot,” she says. “This music makes me fall in love, I have a catchy tune from you,” she says in the great “Green Eyes Lie,” and even if she meant it differently, the catchy tune is there. When she makes it clear in the final title track “Pictures” that every love that goes doesn’t have to disappear forever, because the images stay with you, then you agree with her wholeheartedly.

The woman from Linz has a mission. She wants to create a safe place for people who often don’t feel safe enough in everyday life to be themselves, she says. She succeeds in doing this with songs whose lyrics are characterized by a fine choice of words and a high level of empathy. They are songs of the heart and of the people who love the heart, who come, stay – and sometimes go.

Grip “Vertigo” (Warner)
The title song of her debut album opens the door to the British songwriter’s world, which is rich in pop melodies. The most notable song is “Vertigo” at the beginning, and is only partially rivaled by the lyrical “Pillow in My Arms” and the casual, cool beat of “Into the Walls”.

Kasabian „Happenings“ (Columbia)
A rock band also has its lyrical moments, and sometimes on the new Kasabian album you feel as if you are actually being asked to dance. “Darkest Lullaby” and “Italian Horror” come across with a lightness that, contrary to their titles, at least encourages you to do a casual dance. “Algorithms” at the end begins almost like a romantic campfire ode and then builds up with heavenly guitars and vocals to become a happy song that is guaranteed to make you sing along.

Kylie Minogue „My Oh My“ (with Bebe Rexha & Tove Lo)
Kylie Minogue certainly knows how to write pop songs so that they can be heard by many people. “My Oh My” is no exception. Smooth, easy-going and easy-going.

Peter Fox „Night Ride“ (feat. Kofee Bean)
Still looking for a chilled summer song? Then quickly board Peter Fox’s night train and let yourself be taken on a journey where everything is quiet. Cool. Wonderful. Relaxing.
