With the models of this duel, it is necessary to remove the drawer, and therefore to interrupt the cooking to observe the food – or to mix them in the absence of a rotating blade -, but this design also allows them to occupy less space. on the counter and in a cupboard.
The Xiaomi fryer is loaded by a drawer like the Philips fryer.
The dimensions of fryers from Philips and Xiaomi are very close, as is their capacity. That of the Mi Smart Air Fryer 3.5L obviously reaches 3.5 l, while the Essential Airfryer peaks at 4.1 l. It is therefore a little more for the second, but the difference does not change much in use. If we stick to the information and recipes of the two manufacturers, the Xiaomi model would even allow you to prepare a little more fries (up to 600 g against 500 g for the other). In both cases, it is little and we will therefore avoid inviting the whole neighborhood. It will also be necessary to give up on roast chickens, but we note that Xiaomi provides a metal grill to cook pieces of meat or fish, in addition to a separation plate for fat.
The two duelists also differ in their colors with black at Philips and white for Xiaomi – we prefer the second for its less messy side – but also and above all their control panel.

The Chinese giant has not hesitated to integrate technologies from other devices in its catalog, smartphones for example, in particular a small OLED screen offering a clear and intuitive interface. It also gives the choice of eight automatic programs, the settings of which can be personalized via a mobile app, because the Mi Air Fryer is also connected to wifi. It is thus possible to receive cooking alerts on a smartphone, to control it remotely or to pre-program it – provided of course that you have inserted the food to be cooked beforehand. The app also includes some recipes and it is possible to select a temperature and a cooking time manually from the screen of the device.
For its part, the Essential Airfryer Compact HD9200/90 relies on a much more rudimentary system with a temperature selector and another for the duration. No program is therefore offered here, but Philips has provided some cooking recommendations on the top of its device to guide the user. Let’s add that there is a slightly more expensive model equipped with programs: theEssential Airfryer Compact HD9252/90. The Dutch fryer is also not connected. An application is nevertheless proposed to find recipes with nutritional information as a bonus. In short, Xiaomi’s app is still less complete on this point.

The Mi Smart Air Fryer 3.5L offers slightly more possibilities with its temperature range of 40°C to 200°C. It is thus possible to use it to dehydrate food, an activity that the Essential Airfryer Compact does not allow, which is regulated at a minimum of 80°C. The maximum temperature is also 200°C and both models are regulated in steps of 5°C.
