Senegalese President Macky Sall met his American counterpart Joe Biden on the sidelines of the G7 summit being held in Germany (June 27-28), the White House said on Tuesday.
President Sall was invited to the G7 meeting in his capacity as Chairman of the AU.
“The two presidents discussed the impact of Putin’s war once morest Ukraine on food security in Africa. President Biden discussed the upcoming G7 announcement on additional efforts to support food security,” the White House website said.
Discussions also focused on the G7 Partnership for Global Infrastructure and Investment, reads the document debriefing the meeting.
In addition to the American president, Macky Sall met the German chancellor Olaf Scholz as well as the president of the World Bank David Malpass.
“I thank the partner countries who have supported us for a just and equitable climate transition for universal access to electricity in Africa. More than 600 million Africans still live without electricity”, noted on Twitter the president of the AU.
“I also appreciate the support for my plea for the granting of a seat to the African Union within the G20 for better support of the interests of the continent which has more than 1.3 billion inhabitants for a cumulative GDP. of 2.6 trillion dollars,” said Sall.
