Dr. Amr Kandil explained to Cairo 24 that the national polio vaccination campaign is scheduled to start next December 11, to vaccinate all Egyptian and non-Egyptian children nationwide.
The head of the preventive medicine sector at the Ministry of Health and Population added that the campaign aims to vaccinate children once morest polio from the age of one day to 5 years. To keep Egypt free of polio, especially with the reception of expatriates and refugees from abroad.
In a separate context, Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Health and Population, confirmed that the syncytial virus is not new, as it was discovered since 1956, and it is one of the viruses that infect the respiratory system.
Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar explained that the syncytial virus is a virus with respiratory symptoms that increases with the onset of winter, stressing that children under the age of 6 months to two years are the most vulnerable group to contracting the symptoms of this virus.
The minister added that the syncytial virus has not been so widespread during the past two years, due to the precautionary measures taken by families during the Corona pandemic.
He pointed out that the incubation period of the disease ranges from 4 to 6 days, and may reach two weeks, then symptoms appear on the patient, explaining that the virus lives on surfaces for hours, noting that newborns, less than 6 months, and children who suffer from illnesses or diseases Immunocompromised, they are most exposed to the severity of symptoms, while the pathological symptoms continue with children from two years to 5 years, from one to two weeks.
