HEAD of the Indonesian Migrant Worker Protection Agency (BP2MI) Benny Rhamdani proposed that restrictions on sending PMI goods be removed.
“BP2MI proposes that there should be no restrictions on PMI delivery of goods,” said Benny in an online Zoom meeting, Tuesday, April 9 2024.
According to him, restrictions on the delivery of goods to the point that they were stuck at several ports meant that the families of the PMIs were unable to use the goods sent by the PMIs to celebrate Eid al-Fitr.
“Most of the items sent were snacks, cakes for Eid, clothes, cups, watches, jewelry, cosmetics, souvenirs purchased with the sweat and blood of PMIs, they wanted to give gifts to their families, to be used for Eid al-Fitr 1445 Hijriah,” said Benny.
He also urged the government to immediately release the goods sent by PMI who were stuck.
“PMI’s goods are still stuck in holding warehouses, such as at Tanjung Mas Port, Semarang, and Tanjung Perak, Surabaya,” said Benny.
BP2MI proposes to the relevant ministries and institutions that there will no longer be any restrictions on PMI delivery of goods. Including, so that the government waives import duties on goods sent from PMI.
“This is what sparked our empathy, this must be revised, there is injustice towards PMI, free all PMI belongings,” he said. (Z-7)
