Pepe, a player with a lot of experience, who turned 40 on February 26, renewed his contract with Porto for one season, the team confirmed this Sunday.

“Pepe and Porto have fulfilled a reciprocal wish,” the Portuguese club said in a statement.

“It is a club and a city that I adore and I hope to be able to contribute this year with my work to obtain new titles,” said the footballer, quoted in the statement.

Although Pepe was born in Brazil and landed in Portugal at the age of 18, he made his debut as a professional footballer at Maritimo de Madeira.

The Portuguese central defender played three seasons (2004-2007) at a high level. As a consequence, he signed for Real Madrid.

During his time as a merengue player, he won the UEFA Champions League three times and wore the white shirt for a decade.

He returned to Porto

After 18 months at Besiktas, Pepe returned to Porto in January 2019.

Képler Laveran Lima Ferreira played 133 games with the Portuguese national team and was part of the team that won the Euro Cup in 2016.

Pepe won everything possible at the club level with Real Madrid and became a benchmark for the Spanish team.
