Local media from Puná Island, Guayaquil canton in Ecuador, shared images of destroyed houses and buildings with masonry detachments. They were moments of despair, of fright, in some neighborhoods because there were people who were trapped.
Pasaje was one of the cantons of El Oro that recorded heavy damage to real estate structures. Firefighters and rescue teams traveled to different points in that canton to attend to emergencies.
The island’s health homes received several injured following the earthquake. In some cases, part of a structure collapsed on the vehicles. In addition, several poles fell in the streets and traffic was impossible.
In the midst of the destruction of the earthquake, The image of a father who hugs and kisses his little daughter went viral. They were trapped in the rubble of a house that collapsed on Juan Montalvo street, between Sucre and Rocafuerte.
The father was holding his daughter tightly on the second floor of the collapsed house. Meanwhile, passersby passing through the sector tried to help them.
Quickly, thanks to the help of the neighbors, rescue teams went to that sector to help get the trapped people out.
The Pasaje Fire Department informed the radio station La Voz de El Oro that They took out -in the first hours- seven people who were trapped in buildings.
Some 20 houses had collapsed or had damage to their structure in the canton, minutes following the earthquake. Precisely, the house where the father and his daughter were trapped was one of the most affected.
From ECU 911 they reported that, due to the earthquake, so far it has been registered throughout the Ecuadorian territory: 421 emergencies, of these 365 were in Machala, these cases were coordinated with the first response institutions in order to provide timely assistance to citizenship.

The president of Ecuador, Guillermo Lasso, confirmed that yesterday’s 6.5 magnitude earthquake left 14 fatalities, 11 in the province of El Oro and two in Cuenca. The deceased in the province of El Oro were also registered due to structural collapses.
