Former Indian cricketer Parthiv Patel said that all-rounder Axar Patel should have been included in the 15-member Indian squad for the Asia Cup. Performed as an all-rounder in the West Indies tour but was not considered for the squad. Although not included in the squad, the star has been considered in the reserve squad.
The former player commented that India needed the services of off-spinner Ravichandra Ashwin and Hooda is in the team instead. Earlier, Axar Patel got a chance when Jadeja was out due to fitness issues.
In a video on his YouTube channel, Parthiv Patel talked regarding India’s selection in the spin department. “Another surprise exception for me was that of Axar Patel. He delivered whenever the team needed him and did whatever was asked of him. They tried Ashwin in the last World Cup and if they want off-spin in Australia they can pick Hooda. So, as Jadeja’s backup, Axar should have been selected.
“India went with four spinners, which is a bit surprising given the conditions in the UAE. Only three seamers have been selected. They should have gone with three spinners and four seamers, the pacers had some help when they played the IPL here,” he added.
