He was born in Port Said Governorate, and moved with his father to live in Cairo, until he completed his studies and obtained a baccalaureate degree, following which he was appointed to the Ministry of Agriculture.

During his work in the Ministry of Agriculture, the artist Mohsen Sarhan used to practice boxing, which was the main reason for his entry into the field of art following he caught the attention of a number of directors with his strong physical structure, and joined the amateur team to present many plays, until he obtained a certificate as a professional artist in 1944, following he finished his studies. Mohsen Sarhan presented many artworks, as he began his artistic career in the fifties of the twentieth century and continued his career until the nineties, and starred with a number of stars, including: Laila Murad, Tahia Carioca, Madiha Yousry, Faten Hamama, Amina Rizk, and other artists at that time.

By the artist Mohsen Sarhan, a number of important cinematic works, including Long Live the Women, The Beach of Love, You Have a Day, O Unjust, Forbidden Happiness, Magda, The Virgin and the Scorpion, but the most important of them is the movie Wolves that do not eat meat, which sparked controversy at the time because it contained explicit nudity scenes by the artist Nahed Sharif Where it was considered a shock to the audience of the artist, Mohsen Sarhan, who is known for his religiosity, commitment, and keenness to embody religious figures, and his interest in the ethics of society.

He won several awards for his work and artistic career, including the Medal of the Republic in 1964 AD and the Golden Certificate of Appreciation from the Egyptian Association of Film Writers and Critics for Pioneering in the Art of Acting in 1983 AD, in addition to the Television Shield in 1985, and he continued in cinematic work until the end, albeit with small roles that almost reached For one scene, he presented, just before his death, the movie A Woman on the verge of falling with Yusra, and the Circle of Death with Samah Anwar, and The Troubles and the Captain with Athar Al-Hakim, until his works reached approximately 119 works, in which he presented various roles between romance, comedy and drama.
