On September 27, 2021, William was diagnosed with Menkes Syndrome. This incurable disease is actually a disorder of copper metabolism, manifesting itself in particular by neurological disorders. According to doctors, the son of Marie and Denis had an estimated life expectancy of between a year and a half and three years.
However, a ray of hope appeared last December when the parents learned of the existence of an alternative treatment which was only possible in Spain. A fundraiser was then launched, allowing the family to collect no less than 100,000 euros. Marie and Denis had made an appointment for a consultation on May 23, but in the meantime, William’s state of health had deteriorated.
“Today William has found rest following an unfair battle,” the two parents announced in a Facebook post on Thursday. “William’s strong heart wanted to stay with us longer, but the rest of his little body mightn’t… Words fail us, we are broken. We are now only two at home, but in our hearts we are still three,” they concluded.
Shortly following Williams’ diagnosis, both parents made a to-do list with their son. Among other things, you might find a number of activities there, such as a visit to Pairi Daiza, meeting Saint-Nicolas or even celebrating your first birthday.
