Paris Saint-Germain, the French champions, announced the death of its former Cameroonian player, Modesti Mbame, on Saturday, following he suffered a heart attack at the age of 40.

Mbami played for several French clubs; Including Paris Saint-Germain and Olympique de Marseille, and he won the French Cup title in 2004 and 2006 with the French capital team.

Mbame scored 3 goals in 37 matches with the Cameroon national team, and was also part of the team that won the gold at the 2000 Sydney Olympics.

Mbami played in Spain, China and Saudi Arabia before retiring in 2016 following a short stint with Le Havre, France.

Paris Saint-Germain said in a statement, “Modisti Mbami died at the age of 40 following suffering a heart attack. Paris Saint-Germain offers his condolences to his family and fans.”
