University of Alabama basketball star Darius Miles has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of a woman near the University of Tuscaloosa campus early Sunday morning.
The arrest of Miles, 21, and another young man named Michael Lynn Davis, 20, came following they opened fire on a car in a location known as “the Strip” at dawn on Sunday.
A woman named Jonai Harris, 23, was shot during the accident and was later declared dead. It was also found that Miles and Davis were non-life-threatening, when an unidentified person returned from the car at the source of the gunfire.
“It appears that the only motive for what happened was a minor altercation between the two youths and the victim while they were in the strip,” said Jack Kennedy of the Tuscaloosa Police Department.
Later, the University of Alabama issued a statement, confirming that Miles had been dropped from the basketball team following his arrest. “We have learned of the latest charge once morest student-athlete Darius Miles, he has been removed from campus, and is no longer a member of the Alabama basketball team.”
