How does Giorgos Gavrilos envision the potential for unity and accountability within SYRIZA following his resignation?
**Interview with Giorgos Gavrilos, Former Parliamentary Representative of SYRIZA**
**Interviewer:** Thank you for joining us, Mr. Gavrilos. You recently resigned from your role as a parliamentary representative of SYRIZA while remaining within the party. Can you share what led to your decision?
**Giorgos Gavrilos:** Thank you for having me. My decision to resign stems from my dissatisfaction with certain mistakes made by our leadership over the past two months. It became clear to me that I could no longer fulfill my responsibilities effectively, and I needed to make a statement about the need for accountability within our party.
**Interviewer:** It’s quite a significant move to step down from a position of responsibility. Do you feel this resignation will have broader implications for SYRIZA?
**Giorgos Gavrilos:** Absolutely. It’s indicative of the growing discontent within the party following recent electoral outcomes and internal disagreements. I hope this can serve as a catalyst for change, prompting discussions about our direction and strategies.
**Interviewer:** You mentioned speaking with the president of the KO, Nikos Pappa. How did he react to your decision and the concerns you raised?
**Giorgos Gavrilos:** Nikos listened to my concerns, and while he may not agree with my decision, he understands the gravity of the issues we face. There needs to be an honest reflection within our ranks if we want to regain the trust of our supporters.
**Interviewer:** Many in the political landscape see this resignation amidst turmoil as a call to revisit SYRIZA’s core values. Do you think the party can unify and rebuild under its current leadership?
**Giorgos Gavrilos:** I believe there’s potential for unity, but it requires open dialogue and perhaps even a reevaluation of our leadership approach. It’s crucial that we address the grievances of our members and the electorate.
**Interviewer:** It sounds like you’re advocating for significant changes. Do you think this will resonate with the party’s base, which has been frustrated with recent performance?
**Giorgos Gavrilos:** I hope so. Our base deserves to be heard, and if we are to move forward successfully, we must engage with them and reflect on our recent errors.
**Interviewer:** As a final thought, if SYRIZA’s trajectory does not change, what do you think could be the consequences for the party in the next election cycle?
**Giorgos Gavrilos:** If we fail to address our internal issues and reconnect with the voters, I fear we may see a further decline in support. It’s imperative that we act decisively to prevent that from happening.
**Interviewer:** Thank you, Mr. Gavrilos, for sharing your insights. It will be interesting to see how the party evolves in the coming months.
