What prompted Giorgos Gavrilos to resign from his parliamentary duties while remaining a member of SYRIZA, and what changes does he hope to see in the party?
**Interview with Giorgos Gavrilos on His Resignation from SYRIZA’s Parliamentary Duties**
**Interviewer**: Thank you for joining us, Giorgos. You’ve recently announced your resignation as SYRIZA’s parliamentary representative, although you’re remaining in the party. Can you elaborate on the reasons behind your decision and what mistakes you feel were made over the past two months?
**Giorgos Gavrilos**: Thank you for having me. My resignation stems from a growing dissatisfaction with the party’s direction and decisions made recently. I feel that these choices do not align with the values and expectations of our constituents. I believe we need a period of reflection and a re-evaluation of our strategies to better serve the people.
**Interviewer**: Many party members and supporters might see this as a sign of instability within SYRIZA. How do you think your resignation will affect the party’s image and its supporters’ trust?
**Giorgos Gavrilos**: That’s an important consideration. Resignations can signify turmoil, but they can also open up a necessary dialogue for reform. I hope that my decision encourages others to voice their concerns and that we can address issues transparently to rebuild trust.
**Interviewer**: You mentioned discussions with the party’s president, Nikos Pappa. How receptive do you feel the leadership is to the concerns you’ve raised, and do you expect significant changes within SYRIZA moving forward?
**Giorgos Gavrilos**: I believe that leadership is aware of the dissent and is open to feedback. However, the extent of the changes will depend on how willing we are to confront uncomfortable truths and act upon them. Open dialogue is crucial for any progressive change.
**Interviewer**: This resignation raises questions about internal unity and accountability in political parties. What do you think readers would think about the potential backlash this might create within SYRIZA? Do you foresee division or can this lead to a stronger, more united front?
**Giorgos Gavrilos**: This is indeed a pivotal moment for SYRIZA. Some may view it as a sign of division, while others might see it as a critical step toward accountability and improvement. It ultimately depends on how we choose to address this situation collectively. Engaging in productive debate and criticism can strengthen our resolve, rather than weaken it.
**Interviewer**: Thank you, Giorgos, for your insights. The community will certainly have mixed feelings about this development, and the debate around it will be crucial for SYRIZA’s future.
