The scheme has already worked elsewhere. This time, it was to the detriment of the Carrefour hypermarket located in the Mérignac Soleil shopping center that a thief used the stratagem to steal two full carts of mobile phones and computer equipment.
The individual allowed himself to be locked in the building when the doors closed on Saturday evening. He didn’t move and waited several hours before approaching the telephone section. In just a few minutes, armed with a crowbar, he forced open a window and stole high-end equipment.
An outside accomplice
Volumetric alarms detected his presence but the criminal had time to reach an emergency exit. He broke a padlock to find himself outside where an accomplice was waiting for him.
The two men loaded the equipment into a car and abandoned the carts a few blocks away.
The damage is estimated at several tens of thousands of euros. Police officers from the Property Crime Squad of the Territorial Crime Division (DCT) are responsible for the investigation.
