Hollerbach gives Kagawa a taste of Belgian football. Like Christian Brüls, the T1 of Saint-Trond notably cited the Japanese player to explain the best Trudonnaire game once morest KV Mechelen in the second half.
Before the break, Saint-Trond had great difficulties once morest Mechelen. “We had too much fear in the first half,” noted Hollerbach. “We showed too much respect, I don’t know why. I think we weren’t aggressive enough in midfield, Mechelen deserved to take the lead. We showed character in the second half, we We played good football, put on good pressure and scored a nice goal.”
A certain Shinji Kagawa had his part to play. The former Dortmund star played a full half in the Jupiler Pro League for the first time. “He has worked well in recent weeks. He knows how to play football, there’s no debating that. He did very well in the second half. He’s on the right track.”
Christian Brüls agrees with this. “With Kagawa’s input, we had more footballing power in midfield,” explained the attacking midfielder who saw STVV grow as a team over the course of the game. “Because we played more football in the second half. With every successful pass and combination, the confidence increases.”
And Kagawa was not far from offering the three points to the Canaries during the last moments. “With a bit more luck his shot would have gone in at the end, but the Mechelen keeper did a perfect job.”
