“He knew his executioner” –

A 360-degree investigation is underway into the murder of Sharon Verzeni, the 33-year-old stabbed to death in the street during a nighttime stroll in Terno d’Isola, in the province of Bergamo, while her boyfriend was sleeping at home. While waiting for DNA traces to be found on the barmaid’s body, about ten people, including neighbors and other people in the area, have been subjected to genetic tests. The latest indiscretion to emerge from the investigation is about the people who may have seen something on the night between July 29 and 30.

The cameras in the area would have documented the passage of a man on a bicycle in those minutes. But there would be several people – on foot, on bicycles and on motorbikes – spotted in the area in that period who need to be identified.

According to criminologist Roberta Bruzzone, Verzeni knew the killer and it was not a random crime. “The dynamics of the crime clearly indicate that Sharon had a prolonged interaction with her tormentor before being killed,” the consultant told Adnkronos. To support this theory, the criminologist recalls a crucial detail, which emerged from the analysis of the pedometer of the young woman found lifeless in Terno d’Isola: “The girl walked 630 meters in about 50 minutes. A distance that a person used to walking would have covered in five or six minutes.” For Bruzzone, there are no doubts: “It is not a sudden attack, but a prolonged encounter, during which the girl interacted with her tormentor.”

This observation, according to the criminologist, clearly distances the idea of a sudden violence. Strengthening this hypothesis is the discovery of a genetic trace, probably belonging to the killer, found at the crime scene. The investigators have concentrated their efforts on a series of targeted DNA tests. “The choice to limit the investigation to the residents of that street is a very sensible strategic move,” explains Bruzzone, “also because the number of tests needed is relatively limited.” The criminologist excludes the hypothesis of a large-scale DNA test: “The investigators already have a preliminary profile in hand, capable of directing the investigation towards specific suspects.”
