The Israeli military announced that it had killed a senior Hezbollah official during an airstrike.
The death of Ali Abdel Hassan Naim, deputy commander of its rocket and missile unit, was announced today (29.03.2024). Hezbollah. The announcement was made by the Israeli army which, as it revealed, killed the commander in an airstrike in Bazuriye, Lebanon.
“Earlier today an Israeli air force aircraft (…) neutralized Ali Abdel Hasan Naim, deputy commander of Hezbollah’s rocket and missile unit in the Bazouriye region,” the Israeli military said in a statement.
This Hezbollah operative was “responsible for conducting and planning attacks against Israeli civilians,” the same source added.
Earlier, a Lebanese military source said a “key figure” of the Lebanese Shiite movement Hezbollah was killed in a hit to his car in southern Lebanon, blaming the Israel.
From the beginning of the war between them Hamas and Israel on October 7 in the Gaza Strip Hezbollah and other Palestinian-allied organizations engage in near-daily firefights with Israeli forces along Lebanon’s southern border.
Israel responds by bombing deeper and deeper into Lebanese territory and launching attacks against Hezbollah and Hamas operatives.
Lebanon’s ANI news agency reported that a “targeted attack by an enemy drone against a vehicle” took place in Bazouriye, near the coastal city of Tyre, killing one person.
A Lebanese military source, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the victim was “an important Hezbollah official.”
Cross-border clashes have intensified this week, raising concerns of a more generalized conflict between Israel and Hezbollah.
According to newsit, the White House estimated yesterday Thursday that the return to calm on the Israel-Lebanon border should be a “highest priority”.
On Wednesday, eleven civilians, including 10 rescuers, were killed in Lebanon in a strike attributed to Israel, while one civilian was killed in the Israeli town of Kiryat Shmona in Hezbollah shelling.
At least 347 people have been killed in Lebanon – most of them Hezbollah fighters but also nearly 68 civilians – in firefights since the war broke out in Gaza, according to an AFP tally. At the same time, thousands of people in southern Lebanon have been forced to leave their homes.
Ten soldiers and eight civilians have been killed in northern Israel, according to the army.
