New Delhi: Former England batsman Kevin Pietersen has said that Rohit Sharma is the best player to lead the Indian Test cricket team. Virat Kohli stepped down as captain of the Indian Test team last week following leading the team for seven years. Rohit is currently the captain of the Indian limited overs team.
‘Rohit Sharma will be India’s best Test captain because his leadership was excellent. He also has five IPL trophies. No one can beat him in the race for Test captaincy, “Peterson told ANI.
Earlier, Virat Kohli had announced that he would step down as captain of the Twenty20 team following the World Cup in the UAE in November. Later, the BCCI selected Rohit as the Twenty20 captain. Kohli’s ODI captaincy was vacated when the selection committee decided that one captain was enough for limited overs cricket.
“Virat Kohli was a great captain, but leaving the post may be a personal decision and no one can interfere,” Peterson said.
Currently, K.L. Kohli is currently playing in the ODI series once morest South Africa under Rahul. The next challenge for the BCCI will be to select a captain ahead of the home Test series once morest Sri Lanka in February.
