“He has the flag of Russia on him!” Honoring Ovechkin in the United States caused a scandal

Americans criticize the boss of the Russian star.

The current regular season of the NHL for the attacking “Washington” Alexander Ovechkin was extremely successful. Thanks to the high performance, the hockey player entered the top three snipers in the history of the league. It was this event that became the reason for the solemn ceremony that took place on the eve of the match with Carolina.

Alexander the Great once once more bathed in the love of the fans, but not without a curiosity. As well as a scandal involving the owner of the capital’s club.

Ovechkin’s own portrait fell on him

The match between “Washington” and “Islanders” was the last in the current regular season for the “capital” in the home arena. It is logical that the employees and management of the club decided to congratulate Alexander Ovechkin on getting into the top three snipers of all time just before the start of this confrontation, with the full stands of the Capital One Arena.

Unfortunately, in the previous match, the captain of the capital squad was injured as a result of a collision with the board and might not go to the meeting with the “islanders”. Therefore, Alexander the Great attended the ceremony dedicated to him in a business suit, and not in the usual hockey equipment.

Honored Ovi very warmly and touchingly. The legendary hockey players whom he beat this season in the sniper list, as well as his parents and family, recorded video messages shown on a cube under the arches of the arena. Fans were even given souvenirs in honor of this significant event. They prepared a special gift for Ovechkin himself, but it was he who led to the main embarrassment of the ceremony.

At some point, a large painting appeared behind Ovi, hidden from view by a black opaque cloth. It was planned to reveal the intrigue directly during the solemn ceremony, but these plans were not destined to come true. Someone from the staff touched a gift standing on a stand, and it fell right on the hockey player’s back. Alexander was frightened for a moment, but turning around and realizing what had happened, he made a signature smile and laughed at the curiosity along with Caps owner Ted Leonsis. Fortunately, neither the picture nor the NHL superstar was injured.

The only disappointment from this moment was the vanished intrigue. As the staff lifted the painting, the cover fell off and everyone saw the image. In the foreground of the canvas, the hero of the occasion flaunted himself, and behind the hockey players whom he was ahead of recently: Phil Esposito, Brett Hull, Jaromir Jagr and Marcel Dionne.

“What the hell is Ted Leonsis wearing?”

And if you can only laugh at this curiosity, then Washington boss Ted Leonsis got into a scandal. His appearance caused great questions and claims from the Americans. At the Ovechkin award, he presented in a tracksuit in the colors of the capital’s team, which coincidentally repeat the colors of the Russian flag. Looking at him, one might really think that the businessman put on a suit of the Russian national team.

On social networks, fans immediately began to look for the underlying reason in the actions of the owner of the Capitals, accusing him of love for Russia.

“What the hell is Ted Leonsis wearing?” – the user with the nickname @James_J_Hare was indignant at the appearance of the owner of the Capitals.

Does Leonsis wear a Russian jacket? @RelOcateTheOs asked.

“Ted Leonsis looks like he’s wearing a jacket with the Russian flag on it,” noted the clear resemblance of Leonsis’s clothes to the @markvbref tricolor.

“Damn, Ted Leonsis is immersed in Russian fashion in this tracksuit,” writes @holtbymoly.

Unfortunately, teammates might not please their captain on this solemn evening for him. But the ceremony itself will surely be remembered by Alexander for a long time, and the painting will take pride of place in his house. It remains to wait for a gift with images of Gordie Howe and Wayne Gretzky.
