He had a third of his penis amputated due to cancer

He thought it was mild irritation, it was actually cancer. A 39-year-old man had to have a third of his penis amputated following receiving this terrible diagnosis.

His little bump on the penis did not suggest the worst … and yet. A 39-year-old man, named Joe Merrall, had a third of his penis amputated due to cancer, a terrible story relayed by the Sun.

It all starts when he notices a pea-sized lump on the side of his penis. At first glance, he thinks of a slight irritation, probably caused by the friction of his sex with his pants. But taken aback by this anomaly, he nevertheless decides to go to his general practitioner who wants to be reassuring. The health professional thinks it might be a sexually transmitted infection. But this diagnosis does not seem to be the correct one. The pain intensifies, especially when he urinates.

“Prevention is better than cure”

His condition worsened in the following weeks. The mass begins to cover the head of his penis and even spreads to the shaft. Finally, a few days before Christmas, on December 23, the thirty-something learns that he has cancer of the penis and that he must have part of it amputated to survive. Surgeons therefore removed the tumor, with a margin of 5mm, last month at North Shore Hospital in Auckland, New Zealand. The patient must now undergo a CT scan to see if the cancer has spread.

Currently recovering, Joe Merrall can no longer ensure his work as a personal trainer. Faced with this situation, he launched a fundraiser to support him financially during this complicated period and, in parallel, manages Move 4 Mental Health, a program to help people improve their mental health through the power of physical exercise. .

Since his ordeal, Joe said he felt “less man” but still made it clear that he might have sex once more. As he explained, he hopes that his testimony will encourage people, in doubt, to consult their general practitioner to be examined. “Prevention is better than cure”he concluded.
