He hacks the video game “GTA VI” from his hotel room without an internet connection: a young man with autism sentenced to life imprisonment

The sentence may seem harsh but Arion Kurtaj was not his first attempt. Member of a very active group of computer hackers, he lists large multinationals such as Microsoft, British Telecom and Uber on his hunt.

A story worthy… of video game.

In 2022, the highly anticipated 6th episode of GTA video game (scheduled for release in 2025) was the target of a hack. 90 videos of the game were thus revealed on the internet. The guilty ? Two members of the hacker group called Lapsus$.

The brains of the operation: Arion Kurtas. A young man, barely 18 years old, suffering fromautism. His accomplice, aged 17, is also suffering fromautism.

Without internet connection

Arion’s trial, tried for 12 offences, was held for two months at the Guildford court in south London (England). A court which pronounced the sentence this Thursday: life internment in a psychiatric hospital under police surveillance, according to our colleagues at 324.

But the judge fears that this might prevent Arion from reoffending. Indeed, already convicted for hacking multinationals such as Microsoft, British telecom or Uber, Arion managed to “hack” GTA while he was under sentence and already locked in a hotel room. In fact, Arion hacked Rockstar Games without an internet connection, by simply connecting to the Cloud using the Amazon Fire Stick from his bedroom television…
