He fulfilled his dream of coaching Liverpool and predicted his death months ago.. The departure of the famous Swede Eriksson

The family of the late coach Sven-Goran Eriksson issued a press statement, which read: “Goran Eriksson passed away this morning at his home, surrounded by his family.”

The family stressed the need to respect their desire to mourn in privacy and not to communicate with them, and to leave condolences with the door open and to send messages through the official website of the late Swedish coach.

Sven-Goran Eriksson had a long battle with pancreatic cancer and achieved his dream of coaching Liverpool during a charity match held last March at Anfield.

Eriksson revealed in January that he had “a year to live at most” after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. He spoke at the time of his great love for Liverpool and expressed his regret for not having coached it during his career.

The late Swedish coach made his name outside his country, where he worked as a technical director for a number of clubs, such as Benfica in Portugal, Roma, Lazio, Fiorentina and Sampdoria in Italy, and Leicester City in England. He also played for the Mexican and Ivory Coast national teams.

The most prominent experience in Eriksson’s career remains his work as technical director of the England national team between 2001 and 2006. He also worked as a consultant and sports director for a number of clubs and federations.

His last coaching experience was when he worked as the technical director of the Philippines national team for a few months between late 2018 and early 2019.
