We are still learning more every day regarding Covid-19, which never ceases to surprise us. Rare side effects or unexpected symptoms have recently been reported in the media around the world. The New York Post reports, for example, that men positive for Covid-19 suffer from severe pain in the penis, a very rare side effect, but at least as painful.
This side effect was brought to light by an anonymous case in Iran, where a man went to the urologist because of penile pain. The 41-year-old patient said he felt discomfort following an erection during sex. This occurred three weeks following the individual tested positive for Covid-19, with mild symptoms.
bleeding problems
Doctors determined that he was suffering from “deep dorsal penile vein thrombosis”. The ultrasound performed by the nursing staff revealed that no blood was flowing into the vein due to a blood clot. The patient had to take a blood thinner to fix the problem and prevent further blood clots. Two months later, he was able to resume a normal life, without presenting any other sexual disorder.
He’s not the only person who has suffered penile damage due to the disease. The New York Post claims that Covid-19 causes clotting problems, as explained by Morteza Bagheri, professor at the University of Sciences of Iran: “Basically, 20% to 50% of patients hospitalized with a Covid-19 have abnormal coagulation tests.”
The scientist specifies, however, that it is rare to contract these pains in the penis because of Covid-19. This concerns men who already suffer from a blood clotting disorder.
