An American human rights organization has filed a complaint once morest the McDonald’s chain of restaurants, accusing it of discrimination, following one of its restaurants intentionally served pork to a Muslim family.
came in a report The Associated Press reported that workers at a chain restaurant in Massachusetts intentionally placed ham chips on a “sandwich” ordered by a Muslim mother of her twins.
The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) said it had submitted a file complaining of discrimination once morest Ms. Ghadeer al-Ahmar to the Massachusetts Commission once morest Discrimination.
The complaint stated that “Islam forbids eating pork, but McDonald’s workers deliberately added it to the complainant’s food, in an attempt to harm and insult her and her children.”
According to CARE’s lawyer, Barbara Duggan, the complaint is a first step in obtaining financial compensation.
The organization is also working on prompting McDonald’s decision to train its employees in an appropriate manner to avoid such accidents in the future.
Circumstances of the accident
The complainant was served the sandwich in June of last year at a restaurant in Bechkobe, 80 miles from Boston.
Ghadeer said in a statement, “McDonald’s made me and my children feel unwanted and worthless by stuffing a fish sandwich with pork chips for no other reason than punishing us for our religion and belief.”
She added, “This act has hurt us, and made my children wonder if they are welcome in their country. They also asked me: Do they hate us?”, adding, “How can I answer such a question?”
