A man suspected of several violent robberies on elderly ladies was arrested on Wednesday, the Brussels-West police zone said on Thursday. The man had been the subject of a wanted notice, released on Friday.
The suspect was wanted for three violent robberies which took place between June 6 and 16 in Brussels, Ganshoren and Molenbeek-Saint-Jean. He always acted the same way, targeting elderly ladies. He waited for the victim to enter the entrance hall of his dwelling, followed him inside, then struck him on the back of the head or pushed him violently, knocking him to the ground. He then grabbed his purse and fled. At least one victim was also kicked in the ribs.
One of the victims testifies
Renée, 87, was coming back from the store and was carrying bread, €30 and a nice pen in her bag. In the hall of his building, the victim received a violent punch “obviously with a big paw, he didn’t have a small hand” she explains to us. Fallen to the ground, and injured in the face, Renée was taken to the hospital.
The eldest is now relieved to know that her attacker has been arrested, but is no less shocked by what happened to her: “What an idea to attack me in this way, given the size of my person and my ageshe wonders. He might have shaken me, gently, I would have given my bag trembling“.
After the wanted notice was broadcast, the suspect was identified and the Brussels-West police zone arrested him on Wednesday. The individual has been placed at the disposal of the Brussels public prosecutor’s office, which will bring him before the investigating judge.
According to La Capitale, the man, HS, is already well known to the courts. He was sentenced several times and was released in April 2022.
