While receiving yesterday the ministers participating in the quartet meeting of Arab ministers of agriculture, which included Jordan, Iraq, Lebanon and Syria, and which concluded its work in Damascus the day before yesterday, President al-Assad stressed that despite the development of technology, the additional challenges posed by climate change on the agricultural sector require joint regional efforts to mitigate the negative effects. President al-Assad referred to the memorandum of agricultural cooperation that was signed between the four countries, considering that it creates a common strategy for cooperation between our Arab countries, and if work is done to expand this cooperation and share it with neighboring countries, then there will be an agricultural and food safety net that serves the peoples of the entire region.

For their part, the Ministers of Agriculture considered that the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding constitutes an effective step in supporting the joint strategies of the four countries to serve issues of food security and agricultural trade between these countries as a first step, stressing the importance of working according to these agricultural strategies that will be achieved by the memorandum, as it guarantees non-interference with agricultural products and facilitates their exchange.
