Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – The issue of the “hijab ban” has sparked a heated debate between the French presidential candidates, Emmanuel Macron and Marine Le Pen, during a debate between the two parties to win public support.
Le Pen said of the headscarf: “I think the head covering is a dress imposed by Islamists,” as she put it.
And the far-right candidate continued, “I think that the vast majority of people who wear it cannot take it off, even if they wanted to,” she said.
For his part, Macron responded, accusing it of creating a system that equates Islam, terrorism and foreigners, which would create a “civil war,” as he put it.
It is expected that the competition will be strong between Macron and Le Pen for the French presidency, as several files will determine the identity of the winner, perhaps the most prominent at the present time are domestic politics and dealing with Russia externally.
