Some people are not made of the same wood as everyone else, this is definitely the case for Robin Fournier, an ultra-trail runner as talented as he is persevering.
At the start of the famous Swiss Peaks Trail race on September 3, Robin quickly felt that it wasn’t going to do it… bad feelings, he might perhaps have finished, but that would only have been “a waste of time”. destruction” for zero pleasure.
During his previous race (La petite trotte à Léon), he had already had warning signs, muscular and gastric problems.
After “only” 50 km on the Swiss Peaks TrailRobin therefore gives up in Fiesch…it takes courage to give up, especially when you have prepared so much (his strava announces 2620 km of activities this year…)!
The vast majority would have rested, depressed for a few weeks and considered getting back on the horse, but not Robin…
Make way for a better tomorrow…
After the rain always comes good weather, but perhaps not always so quickly…
The two days following the abandonment, Robin mightn’t walk anymorehe then decided, on September 5, to make an appointment with a physio healer.
On the 06th, he said to himself that he was going to jog to see what was in his legs, with a “little” idea in mind…
These respond quite well…
“Hello Swiss Peaks Trail organization, yes, it’s Robin, put a bib aside for me for the watered-down 170 km version.” “Ahaha Robin, your joke is good” “What joke?” “…ok, you’re definitely crazy, but we’ll put a bib aside for you…”
September 7, 8 a.m., only 4 days following giving up (including 2 spent not being able to walk), here is a vengeful Robin once more on the starting line.
The sequel is epic!
Drawing on his previous experience, the 28-year-old runner knew what to expect and how to best manage the race.
It must be said that our hero is not an ordinary Jean-Michel either, announced as one of the potential winners of the 360 km race, Robin Fournier ran for 170 km, adjusting his race strategy (a slower start).
Note that Robin offers coaching on his site: https://www.stayinmtn.com/if you want lessons in resilience…
A nice consolation for all, a twist worthy of American blockbusters!
A promising future for this young athlete
With a victory on the 170-kilometer Swiss Peaks Trail following abandoning the 360-kilometer distance, Robin Fournier proves his ability to bounce back and benefit from his past experiences.
His journey bears witness to his perseverance, his adaptability and his constant desire to progress..
There is no doubt that this athlete will continue to make a name for himself in the world of ultratrail and that he will have his benchmark 300 km race!
