After Ústí in 2016 and Prostějov in 2022, the Jihlava ice hockey players became the next team to end the season as winners of the regular season already in the quarterfinals. Dukla allowed Poruba to win only the second match of the quarter-finals, where they still held a draw a few minutes before the end. She handled the home double match perfectly, with two wins with a score of 10:4. “Fantasy, euphoria, nobody expected that we would eliminate Poruba 3:1. I am very proud of all the guys on the team. A big thank you to the fans who supported us so much. It’s just great, fantasy and euphoria,” is a happy Tomáš Harkabus, who scored his 11th goal in the playoffs and most of them on power plays. He doesn’t keep the ovation to himself, he thanks his teammates and especially Tomáš Čachotský and Havránek. “The boys are doing a great job preparing it for me. Havran went up to us in the power play to the fullback position and gives it out great there. Chaga the same. Both of them create play very well, they know how to record and outplay the defending player. And I try to hit it,” he describes the recipe for his huge form.
Poruba did not find a recipe for Jihlava’s overpowering players, Tomáš Harkabus and the tremendous fighting spirit and cohesion of the entire team. The Dukla attacker thinks that the first match in Pelhřimov was quite possibly the key, following which the players of coaches Viktor Ujčík and Karel Nekvasil won match points. “It was terribly important that we played the third match. We led 2-1 for the games and went into the fourth game with a win behind us. They had to and we won the promotion in the fourth game,” rejoices the player with number 71, for whom the fourth game was his 400th game in the Dukla Jihlava jersey.
Tomáš Harkabus in Dukla:
Regular season: 308 games, 87 goals, 82 assists, 169 points
Playoffs and playoffs: 92 games, 29 goals, 21 assists, 50 points
When answering his milestone, it’s clear how much Dukla got under his skin. He is playing in the club for the sixth season in a row, before that he played another season and a half in Jihlava. “I have Dukla in my heart. I really appreciate the fact that I have been able to play so many matches in Dukla so far and I hope to add many more. It’s a beautiful milestone, but we’re moving on,” concludes the interview with the team’s second most experienced player.
