HC Bienne: Navigating Injuries and Roster Decisions for National League Success

2023-10-20 07:51:21

HC Bienne should not look for a new foreigner for the rest of the National League season, at least not for the moment. The Icelandic hockey players are having a complicated start to the year at the sporting level. Currently 11th in the ranking, they are struggling to take off. This situation can be explained in several ways. However, one of the factors that often comes up is the question of the numerous injuries. Currently, Damien Brunner, Viktor Lööv, Alexander Yakovenko, Fabio Hofer, Aleksi Heponiemi and Luca Hischier fill the ranks of the infirmary. Three mercenaries out of the eight under contract are therefore unavailable. However, it is unlikely that sporting director Martin Steinegger will seek additional reinforcement, according to his implication.

Obviously dependent on the financial aspect, Martin Steinegger does not only focus his thoughts on this aspect. According to him, we have to think regarding the sporting side. “We have to be careful with this decision. There are players who will come back and if there are three extra foreigners, I do not think that this increases the performance of the latter, on the contrary,” he explains. For him, having this threat of ending up in the stands hovering over the heads of these players might make them lose confidence. “They get nervous and that doesn’t help,” he says. He doesn’t hide that he wants to have the most competitive team, but it has to be done intelligently.

One thing is certain, you will have to find the right formula. Martin Steinegger still has good hope for his team which remains on two victories, one in the league once morest Rapperswil and one in the Champions League once morest the defending champion Tappara Tampere. We will have to continue this Friday evening with the reception in Lugano at 7:45 p.m., a meeting to be experienced live on RJB from 7:30 p.m. with Jérémie Pignard and Christophe Wahl on commentary. /lge
