HBO Max took away from Netflix its gold mine: “I am Betty, the ugly one”

The abrupt departure of “Yo soy Betty, la fea” from the Netflix streaming platform, where it was introduced since 2021, when it was acquired, among the ten most watched Spanish-language series, would have been caused by none other than HBO Max, which he had his eye on the successful production by Fernando Gaitán released in 1999. He would have bought the copyright from Canal RCN, taking it away from Netflix, which is in crisis and is experiencing its lowest moments since the massive cancellation of subscribers around the world and the rise from rivals of the stature of Star Plus, Apple and HBO itself.

Earlier this year, HBO Max, owned by the giant Warner Media, sealed its first alliance with RCN when it bought the rights to the telenovela “Te la dedicao” starring popular music singer Pipe Bueno and actress Diana Hoyos, whose good reception was a good precedent to go for the RCN gold mine: Fernando Gaitán’s masterpiece and one of the most watched productions in the country.

HBO Max has already announced that it will soon premiere “I am Betty, the ugly one”
