Why is HBO Max raising prices?
HBO Max is merging with Discovery and launching a new app on June 11. Due to the “significant improvements in the offering and functionalities”, the prices of subscriptions will be increased, the streaming service informs subscribers.
HBO Max is also introducing new subscription types. You can choose from:
- A Basic subscription of 5.99 euros per month with advertising.
- A Standard subscription of 9.99 euros per month without advertising.
- A Premium subscription for 13.99 euros per month.
- As an extra, you can add a ‘Sport add-on’ to one of these three subscriptions. For an extra 5 euros per month you can watch live sporting events.
Does your lifetime discount remain valid?
Are you a subscriber from the very beginning? Then your lifetime discount remains valid, but that does not mean that you will continue to pay 2.99 euros per month for your HBO Max subscription.
The lifetime discount is a 50 percent discount on your subscription price and not a fixed amount of 2.99 euros for the rest of your life. And because your subscription will be converted into the new standard subscription of 9.99 euros, you will soon pay 4.99 euros per month.
Not only will this cost you more than you might have expected when taking out the subscription, you will also lose the option to stream films and series in 4K.
Price increase does not take effect immediately
You will not pay this new price immediately: your subscription price will remain the same until 60 days following the introduction of the new app. Your subscription price will not change until your next renewal date on or following August 13, 2024.
