DÜSSELDORF (dpa-AFX) – In order to avoid dependence on China for the production of renewable energy technologies, the European Commission wants to impose production targets for these clean technology goods on member states. By 2030, the EU should be able to produce 40% of its annual needs in non-polluting technologies, writes the European Commission in a draft “Green Deal Industrial Plan”, according to the “Handelsblatt”. The European Commission would like to set production targets for the Member States for solar cells, wind turbines, batteries and heat pumps. The “Wirtschaftswoche” also reported this information.

For the production of batteries and wind technology, the share should be at least 85 percent, according to the “Wirtschaftswoche”. For heat pumps, a share of 60 percent would be fixed. For solar installations, the Commission is aiming for a European production share of at least 40 percent. The European Commission is due to present its proposal for a regulation on March 14.

At the same time, according to the “Handelsblatt”, the Commission insists on speeding up the authorization procedures. Strategic energy projects, called net-zero resilience projects, should in future be decided across Europe within a year if the planned power is greater than one gigawatt. The approval of projects of a lower power should even be done in eight months.
