(Los Angeles = Yonhap News) Correspondent Mi-Na Lim = A man in his 60s was in danger after being attacked by a shark off the coast of Hawaii, USA, but managed to escape and save his life.

According to the Hawaii Fire Department on the 22nd (local time), at 12:30 noon on the 19th, a 60-year-old man was attacked by a shark while swimming in the waters off Anahumalu Bay in the northwestern part of Hawaii Island (Big Island).

He was bitten on the back of his left hand and leg by a shark and began to bleed.

However, the man swam about 200 yards (about 183 m) to reach a yacht that was moored on the nearby shore. Yacht crew helped him out of the water and stopped the bleeding until rescuers arrived.

He was then taken to a city hospital and is said to be receiving treatment.

Firefighters said they could not determine the size or species of the shark that attacked the man.

Foreign media reported that Anahumalu Bay, where the accident occurred, is famous for its beautiful scenery, so there are many tourists who enjoy snorkeling and other water activities.
