At least 36 people aboard a Hawaiian Airlines flight were injured Sunday following severe turbulence, authorities said.
20 passengers on the Phoenix-Honolulu flight were taken to the emergency room. Among them, 11 people are in critical condition. A 14-month-old child is one of them.
Loss of consciousness, head trauma, bruises and lacerations are the injuries some victims suffer, the Honolulu Emergency Medical Service reported.
Hawaiian Airlines is “supporting all affected passengers and employees” and monitoring the situation, the company said.
“Medical treatment was provided to several passengers and crew at the airport for minor injuries, while others were quickly transported to local hospitals for further treatment,” Hawaiian Airlines tweeted.
The turbulence occurred 30 minutes before the plane landed in Honolulu.
Hawaiian Airlines Flight 35, an Airbus 330, reported the turbulence around 10:35 a.m. Hawaii standard time, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.
The FAA is investigating the incident.
