After 27 hours of travel, I arrived in Kona on Friday at 10 p.m. local time. But there was no rest, because I still assembled my bike. The next morning we took the bus to Hawi with Sebastian and his family – Emil, Eva and Sabrina – and with Sven Körbs. Sebastian, Sven, Emil and I then cycled from Hawi back to Kona. That’s half the bike distance in the race. That was an easy three hours of training. We paid close attention to the watts and Sebastian had to slow me down a few times. Along the way, we caught up with Lucy Charles-Barkley, one of the women’s favorites, while she was training. That was amazing. After a short relaxation we went with Sven and Sebastian to swim in the sea. It feels totally awesome to be back, to experience it all once more. Everything is somehow totally familiar and it’s a lot of fun to be here with Sebastian and his family.
