A truck carrying “hazardous materials” exploded Friday morning in Fillinges in Haute-Savoie near Annemasse, said the prefecture of the department without giving an immediate assessment.
It is a “gas transport tanker” and the incident occurred in the Giffre valley near Annemasse, she added on Twitter. “Following the explosion of a hazardous materials truck, the security and rescue services are on site. Respect the safety perimeter!”. A diversion has been put in place, she said.

According to the Dauphiné Libéré, the explosion, which was heard far and wide in the Arve valley, caused a light injury, the truck driver and a serious injury. A total of 21 people, shocked by the explosion, were taken care of. The explosion also reportedly damaged thirteen nearby homes. “According to the first elements of the investigation, the driver was able to get out of his truck when it caught fire.
