THE Chairman of the Indonesian General Election Commission (KPU) Hasyim Asy’ari did not attend in person in the hearing room of the Election Organizer Honorary Council (DKPP) in the agenda of reading the verdict on alleged violations of the code of ethics of election organizers (DKPP) related to alleged immorality, Wednesday (3/7). CAT reported Hasyim for alleged violation of KEPP related to immorality on Thursday (18/4). Before reading the verdict, DKPP had held two series of closed examination hearings once morest Hasyim on Wednesday (22/5) and Thursday (6/6).

Aristo revealed that the first introduction between his client and Hasyim occurred in August 2023 when the Chairman of the Indonesian KPU made an official visit abroad. He said that during the visit, Hasyim approached his client aggressively.

“For example, simply by sending a special WA (WhatsApp) message, asking to be accompanied to go out, but only with him,” said Aristo.

Aristo continued that Hasyim’s meetings with his clients were always conducted in the context of official duties. In addition to overseas, the meetings also took place domestically when the KPU held a technical guidance event to face the 2024 Election.

“He (Hasyim) took advantage of situations like that. So that’s what he took advantage of and that’s where the problem lies. He has a method, namely associating himself with power,” explained Aristo.

CAT’s attorney argued that there was a power relationship from Hasyim as the Chairman of the Indonesian KPU in carrying out his actions in carrying out alleged immoral acts. (P-5)
