From January 5th to April 6th, twenty-five talented artists from the vibrant Limburg region will be showcasing their work, illuminating the streets after the shops have closed for the night. Nine of these artists hail from Hasselt itself, adding a special layer of local flavor to the exhibition. **Mae-Ling Lokko:** Thank you for having me! It’s wonderful to be here.
**Archyde:** Hasselt is already known for its charming boutiques and vibrant atmosphere. Can you tell us about your vision for “Grounds For Return” and how it interacts with the city’s unique character?
**Mae-Ling Lokko:** “Grounds For Return” was conceived as a way to extend the vibrancy of Hasselt beyond daylight hours. **Archyde:** We understand your work was exhibited at Z33 House for Contemporary Art, Design & Architecture. can you speak to the relationship between your artistic vision and the architectural landscape of Hasselt?
**Mae-Ling Lokko:** Z33 provided a fantastic platform to showcase “Grounds for Return” and allowed me to engage with the architectural dialog of Hasselt.The city’s blend of ancient buildings and contemporary design creates a truly unique environment, and I aimed to celebrate that through the installation.[[1](https://www.e-flux.com/announcements/422531/mae-ling-lokkogrounds-for-return/)]
**Archyde:** What impact do you hope your installation will have on Hasselt and its residents?
**Mae-Ling Lokko:** My hope is that “Grounds For Return” will inspire a sense of wonder and revelation in Hasselt, even after dark. by blurring the lines between art and everyday life,I wanted to create an experience that encourages people to look at their city with fresh eyes and appreciate its beauty in new ways.
