Hasina Wajid likely to form government in exile – World

Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Wajid has reportedly fled the country after resigning from the post of Prime Minister. However, his resignation has only been confirmed by the Bangladeshi army chief as he has effectively assumed the reins of power.

The possibility of forming a government in exile of Hasina Wajid remains. This possibility was discussed on ‘Aaj News’ shortly before the confirmation of Hasina’s resignation by Bangladesh Army Chief General Waqar-ul-Zaman.

Shaukat Paracha of Aaj News said that Sheikh Hasina has probably left for India and it is not clear whether Bangladesh will come under martial law or some other form of government.

He said that it is also not clear that Sheikh Hasina will form the government in exile and try to rule from India. He further said that if Sheikh Hasina resigns before leaving the country, there can be a smooth transition.

However, if Sheikh Hasina Wajid forms a government in exile, it will create a lot of problems and confusion, he said citing the example of Afghanistan where the Taliban are in power but their government is not recognized by the United Nations.

Hasina Wajid left Dhaka in a military helicopter and reportedly headed for West Bengal, India.

After the army chief confirmed Hasina Wajid’s resignation, the possibility of her forming a government in exile is remote. The final confirmation of Hasina Wajid’s resignation was still awaited.

According to global media, she wanted to record the speech but she did not get the chance and had to leave. This issue can be a serious problem for the army.
