The “Wolves” won 2-0 away at Werder Bremen on Saturday. Bayer Leverkusen once more showed great morale and won 2-1 once morest Hoffenheim thanks to two late goals. The league leaders, still unbeaten, increased their lead over their pursuers Bayern Munich to 13 points.
However, Bayern can move back to ten points with a win in the top game once morest Borussia Dortmund (6:30 p.m.). ÖFB team striker Michael Gregoritsch once once more demonstrated his accuracy in Freiburg’s 3-0 win in Gladbach four days following his hat-trick once morest Turkey.
Hasenhüttl helped Wolfsburg to their first three points following eleven games without success. The former coach of Leipzig and Southampton had to do without the suspended Patrick Wimmer on his debut, but Pavao Pervan guarded the “Wolves’ goal” in place of the injured Koen Casteels. For Bremen, captain Marco Friedl celebrated his comeback following an injury break.
Leverkusen with comeback qualities
A manageable first half ultimately ended in a decisive manner. First, Bremen’s Anthony Jung was sent off for an emergency stop, and deep into stoppage time, Maxence Lacroix scored from a corner to give Wolfsburg the lead (45+4). The goalscorer also had to leave the field following a controversial emergency stop on Romano Schmid at the beginning of the final quarter of an hour (76th), but Lovro Majer made everything clear for Wolfsburg (84th). Wolfsburg increased the gap to the relegation place to eight points.
Leader Leverkusen kept running for a long time in the duel with Hoffenheim and lacked precision in finishing. On the other side, the guests took the lead with their first shot on goal. Neo-DFB international Maximilian Beier completed a one-two with Wout Weghorst (33′).
Gregoritsch scored once more
Leverkusen also dominated the game in the second half of the game, Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong and Patrik Schick all missed good opportunities. However, like so often this season, the frontrunners managed to turn the game around in the final minutes. First Robert Andrich scored with a volley (88th), before Schick scored the much celebrated winning goal from close range in the first minute of added time (91st). Leverkusen remained unbeaten in the 39th competitive game in a row.
Gregoritsch scored in Gladbach to give Freiburg the lead following just seven minutes. The attacker pushed a deflected shot over the line from close range and once once more acted as a can opener. Gregoritsch scored the important 1-0 in the Bundesliga for the tenth time during his time in Freiburg. After the break, Gladbach keeper Jonas Omlin was able to parry a Gregoritsch shot, but he was ultimately beaten by Merlin Röhl’s follow-up shot (47′). Ritsu Doan scored to make the final score 3-0 (58th).
Despite their clear superiority, RB Leipzig mightn’t get past a goalless draw at home once morest Mainz 05. With the point gain, the Saxons at least temporarily moved past Dortmund. The game between Frankfurt and Union Berlin also ended goalless.
