Haryana mourned the loss of former Chief Minister Chaudhary Om Prakash Chautala on Friday, December 20th. The INLD chief passed away at his residence in Gurugram. In tribute to his contributions to the state, the Haryana government declared a three-day state mourning period, lasting from December 20th to 22nd.
As a mark of respect, the national flag was flown at half-mast throughout the state on all government buildings. All official state functions were cancelled, and no official entertainment was permitted during this period of mourning.

Former Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda, who served as the Leader of Opposition during Chautala’s tenure, fondly remembered their working relationship. “When Om prakash ji was the CM, I was the LoP…We had good relations. He served people…He was still active. It didn’t feel that he would leave us so soon…He was a good person and like an older brother to me,” he shared.
