Harvey Weinstein’s conviction overturned in New York

The New York Court of Appeals reported that overturned the sentence once morest former film producer Harvey Weinsteinlinked to rape and sexual assault, for allegedly finding errors in the 2020 judicial process.

Weinstein had been sentenced to 23 years in prison for the #MeToo movement that exposed the abuses they suffered Actresses and women linked to the Hollywood industry.

The ruling was approved by the majority of four judges versus three.

The arguments for this decision are based on the fact that the judge allegedly called women who said they were victims of Weinstein to testify as witnesses, but the accusations they issued were not part of the facts being judged.

“The remedy for these enormous errors is a new trial”the ruling states. The document also reflects the opinions of the three judges who voted once morest it.

Will he be released from prison?

Although the ruling is a major setback to the #MeToo movement, it does not mean that Weinstein will be freed as he is currently also fulfills a 16-year sentence imposed on him in Los AngelesCalifornia, for sexual abuse.

It is presumed that he will be transferred from New York to California to comply with that sentence, while the new process begins.

In response to the Court of Appeals’ decision, the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office asserted that Everything will be done to ensure that the survivors find justice.

«We will do everything in our power to retry the case.“and we remain steadfast in our commitment to survivors of sexual assault,” said Emily Tuttle, a spokeswoman for the organization.

According to him New York TimesWeinstein’s lawyers did not know whether the former producer the news had already been given to him.
