FORMER Director of Operations and Production at PT Timah Tbk Alwin Albar was presented as a witness in the trial of the alleged crime that ensnared Artist Sandra Dewi’s husband, Harvey Moeis. He was asked to explain the costs of refining private smelters and tin.
During the trial, he explained that the cost of smelting in Timah was US$1,000 per ton. However, there are still other fees that must be paid.
“US$1,000 per ton is the pure cost of smelting at PT Timah which does not include other costs,” said Alwin at the Corruption Court at the Central Jakarta District Court, quoted on Friday (4/10).

Alwin explained that if you add up other costs, smelting in Timah reaches US$ 6,000 per ton. Meanwhile, if you use a private smelter it is only US$4,000 per ton.
“That the total cost of collaborating with a private smelter is still cheaper than with PT Timah itself,” said Alwin.
Former Timah Finance Director Emil Ermindra also said there was a difference in the price of the smelting process with private smelters. The consolidation carried out by PT Timah actually does not take into account other components such as salaries, allowances, royalties and others.

“The real figure in 2017 was US$6,200 (per ton),” said Emil.
In this case, Harvey Moeis was charged with corruption and money laundering. The first charge is that he is suspected of causing losses to the state of IDR 300 trillion.
“The loss to state finances amounted to IDR 300,003,263,938,131.14 based on the audit report on the calculation of state financial losses in cases of alleged criminal acts of corruption in the trading system of tin commodities,” said the public prosecutor (JPU) at the Attorney General’s Office (Kejagung) at the Corruption Court at the District Court. Harvey allegedly disguised the money that had been received. He bought a number of items and sent them to Sandra Dewi.
“Harvey Moeis (allegedly committed) was an act of placing, hiding or disguising the assets as if they had nothing to do with the proceeds of criminal acts of corruption,” said the prosecutor.
In this money laundering, Harvey was assisted by Selebgram Helena Lim who owns the money changer company PT Quantum Skyline Exchange. Sandar Dewi’s husband exchanged the rupiah money into Singapore and American dollars in the period 2018 to 2023. (P-5)
