TRIAL continues The defendant in the tin trading corruption case, Harvey Moeis, revealed that corporate social responsibility (CSR) funds collected from private smelter officials were used to buy medical equipment related to Covid-19.
Inadequate equipment and the rapid spread of Covid-19 were the main reasons Harvey Moeis did this.
“For Covid-19, Your Majesty. I bought Your Majesty Covid-19 equipment,” said Harvey at the Central Jakarta (Jakpus) Corruption Crime District Court (Jakpus), Monday (4/11).

The judge then questioned why the money was used to buy Covid-19 medical equipment. Harvey then mentioned that one of his colleagues was an entrepreneur in the medical equipment sector.
“At that time, everything was in short supply, Your Majesty, there was a friend of ours who happened to be a medical device (businessman), and he happened to offer it,” replied Harvey.
However, Harvey admitted that he had not provided information to the smelter bosses that the funds were purchased for medical equipment. He said the medical equipment was given to two hospitals.

“One of them is for RSCM and RSPAD, Your Majesty,” said Harvey.
He said that the medical equipment was immediately sent by the manufacturer to the hospital considering the difficulty of obtaining the medical equipment.
“(Sent by) the person selling it, he said at that time because the equipment was very rare and difficult to obtain, he told me that he could get an allocation of 3 ventilators and 2 PCR devices, Your Majesty,” he said.

Harvey testified in the alleged tin corruption case which involved, among others, himself and three private smelter officials, resulting in a total loss of IDR 300 trillion to state finances.
Previously, the commissioner of the private tin smelter company PT Stanindo Inti Perkasa, Suwito Gunawan admitted to depositing the CSR funds requested by Harvey Moeis to the money changer company PT Quantum Skyline Exchange (QSE) owned by Helena Lim.
According to Suwito, several months after the private company entered into a smelter rental collaboration with PT Timah, Harvey asked the smelter bosses to pay CSR funds at a meeting.
Suwito said that Harvey collected CSR funds for handling Covid-19 or land improvements, but Harvey did not mention the amount that had to be deposited. (P-5)

**Interview with Harvey Moeis on CSR Funds and Covid-19 Medical Equipment**
**Editor:** Welcome, Mr. Moeis. Thank you for joining us today to discuss the recent developments in your trial regarding the alleged misuse of corporate social responsibility funds.
**Harvey Moeis:** Thank you for having me.
**Editor:** You revealed in court that CSR funds were utilized to purchase medical equipment for Covid-19. Can you elaborate on what led to that decision?
**Harvey Moeis:** Certainly. During the initial stages of the pandemic, it became apparent that there was a significant shortage of medical equipment. The rapid spread of Covid-19 was alarming, and I felt compelled to take action. I believed it was our responsibility to assist in whatever way we could.
**Editor:** You mentioned that the equipment was acquired through a colleague in the medical equipment sector. How did that relationship come into play?
**Harvey Moeis:** Yes, one of my colleagues is involved in the medical equipment industry. He approached me at a time when such equipment was critically needed. I trusted that he could help us secure the items swiftly to address the urgent requirement.
**Editor:** However, there was a lack of communication with the smelter bosses regarding this decision. Why was that?
**Harvey Moeis:** In hindsight, I realize it would have been prudent to inform them of my intentions. My focus was on acquiring the necessary equipment quickly, and I acted on impulse in the face of a crisis. I understand now the importance of transparency in such matters.
**Editor:** What was the outcome of the equipment you purchased?
**Harvey Moeis:** The medical equipment was donated to two hospitals that were facing considerable challenges during the pandemic. My intention was to support the healthcare system, which was overwhelmed at that time.
**Editor:** Thank you for sharing your insights, Mr. Moeis. Best of luck with the continuation of your trial.
**Harvey Moeis:** Thank you for having me. I appreciate the opportunity to clarify my actions.
