Asuncion, IP Agency.- A group of fruit and vegetable producers from the Central department have formed a Simplified Joint Stock Company (EAS) with the aim of becoming permanent suppliers for the “Zero Hunger” school feeding programme.

The Ka’avoty Agro-Commercial Company, made up of organized and formalized producers as EAS, presented a continuous production project to the Vice Minister of MSMEs, Gustavo Giménez.

The initiative seeks to guarantee the supply of inputs to the Zero Hunger Program, and, to this end, producers requested technical assistance, financing and access to key information for the development of the plan.

“Our goal is to produce locally, ensuring that profits remain in Paraguay and, at the same time, improve the quality of fruit and vegetable products on the market,” said Aldo Villarreal, president of the company.

He also stressed that the initial production will be destined for schools in the Central Department, with a view to expanding to other markets.

During the meeting with Vice Minister Giménez, Villarreal explained that the lack of quality inputs at certain times of the year is one of the challenges to be faced.

“We have a track record of 30 to 40 years in the sector and we believe that we can satisfy the demand for fruit and vegetable products with quality, quantity and competitive price,” he said.

For his part, Vice Minister Giménez offered support to connect producers with institutions such as the National Development Bank (BNF) and the Guarantee Fund for MSMEs (Fogapy), as well as to manage the necessary registries, such as RENAF and RUC, essential for marketing within the framework of the Zero Hunger Program.

Projection and future of the project

The project not only promises to increase the production of tomatoes, onions and bell peppers, but also to diversify crops and generate employment for more than 80 people currently associated with the company.

“We want to expand our production capacity to meet the needs of the local market, especially during critical seasons,” Villarreal said.
