Ten years ago, this would have created a small earthquake in the microcosm of diamond dealers and other traders of precious stones. Today, the closure on June 4 of Harry Winston’s salon on rue du Rhône in Geneva has not made a wave. Worse, none of the gemstone dealers we interviewed knew about it. It was via a laconic e-mail of a few lines to its customers at the beginning of June that the famous New York jeweler, owned by the Swatch Group since 2013, announced its departure from the City of Calvin, now in Switzerland only its boutique of the Bahnofstrasse in Zurich.
