Harry Kane at Bayern Munich: Can he live up to the pressure? Didi Hamann expresses doubts and warns of potential dangers

Harry Kane is at Bayern Munich. Is everything getting better on Säbener Straße now? Didi Hamann doubts and warns of the lurking dangers.

Munich – FC Bayern has a new hope. From Harry Kane’s commitment, the people of Munich expect goals on the assembly line, as they did for years with Robert Lewandowski. Can the English national team captain withstand the pressure and high expectations in the Bavarian Isar metropolis? Ex-Bayern professional and expert Dietmar Hamann is skeptical that Kane can solve Bayern’s storm problem.

England expert Didi Hamann is critical of Kane’s goal rate at Bayern

The 49-year-old thinks Harry Kane’s transfer for FC Bayern and the league is “very good. Internationally, more attention is paid to the Bundesliga,” said Didi Hamann regarding Bayern’s new record purchases in an interview with the sports picture. However, the big “but” is not long in coming.

“I don’t know if he’s the savior. He doesn’t know the environment, the league and the country. Harry Kane has actually spent his entire career at Tottenham. 25 goals in England does not automatically mean 35 or 40 in the Bundesliga,” warns Hamann, who played for FC Bayern and in the Premier League when he was active.

Hamann warns FC Bayern regarding Kane: “I don’t know if he’s the savior”

Kane scored 30 league goals for his former club Tottenham Hotspur last season – but in 38 games. As is well known, there are only 34 match days in the Bundesliga. In previous years, the striker only scored 17, 23, 18 and 17 goals this season.

It remains to be seen whether the 30-year-old can actually follow in the footsteps of Lewandowski, who moved to FC Barcelona a year ago. The Pole set a Bundesliga record with 41 goals in the 2020/21 season. Hamann thinks Bayern’s Kane package is excessive, he had made that clear before the transfer and is now doing it once more.

Too much pressure? Hamann is critical of Bayern’s Kane package

“He has a huge financial package hanging on his back. No player in the league has ever had such pressure,” explains Hamann. FC Bayern is said to have paid around 120 million euros for Kane including bonus payments – a staggeringly high sum for Bundesliga conditions.

The hype surrounding the new super striker seems to know no bounds. After the frenetic reception by the fans last Friday, a huge Kane poster has now appeared in downtown Munich.

Hamann predicts Kane’s goal at Bayern Munich – with one caveat

“Nevertheless, I trust him to score 23 to 25 goals in the Bundesliga,” predicts Hamann, who should be well aware of the qualities of the experienced Kane. You have to know that in Lewandowski’s first years at Bayern Munich, Hamann was considered a big critic of the Pole, who only scored 17 goals in his first season.

“The mood in the whole club will be decisive for how things go for himself,” warns Hamann in conclusion. In any case, Harry Kane’s first appearance in the Bayern jersey did not go according to plan. “We don’t expect him to be our super hero,” said coach Thomas Tuchel at the press conference following the Supercup defeat once morest Leipzig: “We expect him to be who he is.” (ck)
