Harris: Trump desecrated military cemetery

She calls the former president’s visit a political stunt.

Trump took part in a ceremony where wreaths were laid in memory of the 13 American soldiers who were killed in connection with the US and NATO withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021.

Trump also visited Section 60 of the cemetery, which the military considers very important. Federal law and also Pentagon guidelines prohibit political activity there, but the Trump campaign still published a Tiktok video from the burial site.

– In a solemn place, a place where we come together to honor American heroes who have sacrificed everything in the service of the nation. It is not a place for politics, Harris writes on X.

– To be clear: The previous respect showed a lack of respect for sacred ground, only to make a political stunt, she writes further.

Trump’s visit was met with criticism from some veterans and relatives of soldiers. The military on Friday defended a cemetery employee who was pushed aside at Section 60, saying she acted professionally and was treated unfairly.

In a speech on Friday, Trump claimed that it was family members of soldiers who died in Afghanistan who asked him to visit the grave.

In social media, he has published a video in which relatives of at least seven of the 13 who were killed defend his actions. Many of them are addressing Harris directly, questioning her support for military families.
